FreedomWorks Statement in Response to U.S. District Judge Reed O’Connor’s Ruling That Obamacare is Unconstitutional

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to United States District Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas, Reed O’Connor’s ruling that Obamacare is unconstitutional, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Obamacare was truly one of the worst pieces of legislation ever passed by Congress. Under Obamacare, premiums and deductibles have skyrocketed, leaving hard working Americans on the individual market unable to afford healthcare. The individual mandate was the centerpiece of Obamacare. Without that tax, the law can no longer stand.

“Although Republicans in Congress have failed to repeal Obamacare in its entirety, this ruling has proven that their action to repeal the individual mandate in last year’s tax reform legislation was a consequential move. FreedomWorks agrees with Judge O’Connor’s ruling that Obamacare is unconstitutional.”

Last year, House Republicans repealed the controversial penalty for failing to obtain health insurance. Judge O’Connor wrote in his opinion today that because this penalty, the “individual mandate,” has been repealed, the healthcare law is unconstitutional.
