FreedomWorks Supports Passage of the Scholarship Opportunity Act in the Nebraska Legislature

WASHINGTON, D.C.– In support of the Scholarship Opportunity Act (LB364) that will be heard today in the Nebraska state legislature, Laura Zorc, FreedomWorks Senior Advisor of Education Policy Reform and Parent Led Advocacy, commented:

"Special interest groups like the Nebraska State Education Association (NSEA) opposing LB364 want you to think that it would take money away from public schools but that is simply not true. If passed, LB364 would give families access to an education through tax credit scholarships that right now they can only dream about. Do not fall for the false narratives of the NSEA; instead, listen to the pleas of Nebraska families that desperately want more choice when it comes to the education of their children. Many of the families that will have access to these scholarships are families that live one generation to the next in a cycle of poverty. They should not have to remain trapped in a system that does not work and refuses to change.

“We must not allow teachers unions to dictate the future of our children; we urge senators in the legislature and the people of Nebraska to please support LB364. Nebraska would be wise to follow suit of the Iowa statehouse, where a bill to fund students instead of systems was just this week passed in the house and now making its way to the senate.”

Rachel Terry, founder of School Choice Nebraska, commented:

"Because this year has been so challenging, many kids have developed gaps in their learning. LB364 is a brilliant solution: It incentivizes donations from the private sector to provide scholarships for low-income children, allowing them to attend schools of their choice that are normally available only to their wealthier peers. Opportunity Scholarships are a win for kids and families, a win for taxpayers, and a win for our overburdened public schools."
