FreedomWorks Supports Senate Republican Decision to Cancel August Recess

Washington, DC- FreedomWorks proudly supports Senate Republican Leadership’s decision to cancel the August recess. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) made good on his threat to vulnerable Senate Democrats in a statement today, announcing, “Due to the historic obstruction by Senate Democrats of the president’s nominees, and the goal of passing appropriations bills prior to the end of the fiscal year, the August recess has been canceled.”

FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon commented:

“It’s great to hear that Majority Leader McConnell has canceled the August recess. Senate Republicans have a lot of work to do this summer to pass appropriations bills, confirm President Trump’s nominees, and send conservative legislation to the president’s desk.”

“This is the first step that Republicans should take to fix our broken Senate. Millions of Americans work hard every day, and it’s time for our elected officials to do the same.”

“FreedomWorks remains committed to bringing substantial and lasting reform to Senate rules that will help advance conservative and constitution-minded principles. Majority Leader McConnell’s cancellation of August recess is a step in the right direction.”
