FreedomWorks Vermont Opposes SVFEEP Effort to Raise Taxes

Montpelier — At 11:00 today, a group called Southern Vermonters for a Fair Economy and Environmental Protection (SVFEEP) is bringing a group of 25 wealthy Vermonters to the State House to call on the Governor to raise taxes on the “rich” to fix Medicaid.

FreedomWorks-Vermont strongly stands behind the Governor’s statement, “These tax hikes would destroy the foundation of our economy. The fact is plain: we cannot, should not and must not tax our way out of this problem.”

SVFEEP’s proposals include increasing income taxes and raising taxes on property transfers on high-end homes. Vermonters already suffer under one of the heaviest individual tax burdens in the United States. The fair and just reward for this excessive sacrifice should not be a call for even more. Vermont tax payers have been doing more than their fair share to provide Montpelier with revenue. Now it’s Montpelier’s turn to start spending that revenue with responsibility and respect for the people who pay our bills.

FreedomWorks calls on its members to contact Governor Douglas, to let him know of our support for his principled and economically-sound stand.
