FreedomWorks Won’t Let Cap-and-Trade Energy Tax Battle Slip off the Radar

Despite the recent blitz in media attention given to the debate over health care, there is yet another political battle looming for conservative, limited government advocates: a cap-and-trade carbon emissions regulatory scheme every bit as much a threat to taxpayers’ wallets and fundamental freedoms as the Left’s proposed government takeover of America’s health care system.   And cap-and-trade has actually progressed further in the legislative process, as the House has already passed a bill (Waxman-Markey) that would institute a massive new regulatory regime that would impose significant new costs on consumers and the economy as a whole while producing little in the way of any tangible environmental benefit.

FreedomWorks believes that the scope of this legislation is a considerable threat to individual freedom and an unprecedented expansion of government authority.  As the legislation moves to the Senate this fall, FreedomWorks’ grassroots army of over 700,000 volunteers nationwide will mobilize to stop this initiative by applying constant pressure to targeted lawmakers.  FreedomWorks will continue to educate its membership and the public in general about the economic burdens imposed by a cap-and-trade program.

FreedomWorks Chief Economist Dr. Wayne Brough is an expert on environmental regulatory policy and has been studying the economic implications of environmental regulations like cap-and-trade for nearly two decades.  He has focused his research of late on the potential impact of the policy contained in Waxman-Markey and similar legislative proposals on American consumers and businesses.
