If you used your free time on Saturday or Sunday to watch football, you may have seen an ad run by Joe Biden’s campaign in which the narrator says that Biden won’t raise taxes on anyone earning less than $400,000 annually. The ad perpetuates the myth that the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act was a “tax cut for the rich.” As Chris Edwards of the Cato Institute notes, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act “provided the largest percentage tax cuts to the bottom two quintiles—that is, the bottom 40 percent of U.S. households.”

It will take real discipline to fight through the blizzard of misinformation heading our way as the Presidential election gets into full swing. Americans have already suffered through enough coronavirus related challenges, so doomsday predictions of an approaching Social Security collapse are not only inaccurate, but unhelpful.

On Wednesday, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released separate reports on the ten-year budget outlook and the financial outlook for major federal trust funds. The reports show the impact of COVID-19 on the economy, the failure of Congress to responsibly manage federal spending, and the cost of doing nothing to put federal entitlement programs on a sustainable financial path.

We now have three months of data from the 50 states which show unequivocally that economic lockdowns did not save lives, they are associated with much HIGHER death rates.

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Making DI Work for All Americans Act, H.R. 4854, introduced by Rep. Ted Yoho (R-Fla.). The bill would modernize Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) by making it more fiscally responsible and ensuring it is, as intended, a safety net to those who truly need it.
