Should Trump Leave Twitter?

In the past few weeks, one of our favorite members of Congress and a constant FreedomFighter Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) has been quite active, to say the least. From mic-drop-worthy op-eds and strongly-worded letters to resolutions and bills that would do leagues of good for freedom in our country, his response to the coronavirus pandemic, and the problems that the government has created as a result of it, has been spot-on. Below are some highlights.

President Donald Trump suggested on Wednesday that he has the constitutional authority to adjourn Congress. The suggestion has been, unsurprisingly, panned by the media and legal scholars. The Constitution does actually provide some authority here, but the authority has never been used, leaving more questions than answers.

FreedomWorks is proud to roll out its 2020 policy platform for the Republican Party. Too often, lawmakers in the GOP have been unwilling or unable to implement bold conservative solutions to the problems facing everyday Americans. In some cases, they simply have no guiding principles at all. Andrew McCarthy has written an excellent indictment of the present impeachment process lead by the House Democrats against President Trump, “The Trivialization of Impeachment,” and succinctly explains the essential checks and balances imposed by our Constitution.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit recently issued a ruling in a case on “faithless electors,” Baca v. Colorado Department of State, that has received some media attention. The case is certainly interesting and the opinion from the court is thoughtful and thorough. The opinion from the court is deserving of some explanation of what it could mean for 2020 and beyond. There has also been speculation of the decision’s impact on the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, which is also deserving of explanation.

Radical changes to federal election law have become cause célèbre of Democrats. The House has already passed the For the Politicians Act, H.R. 1, on party lines. Although H.R. 1 has no chance of passage in the Senate, Democrats are discussing other changes to federal elections, including abolishing the Electoral College.
