Key Vote

Key Vote NO on the $4 Trillion Budget Resolution, S. Con. Res. 14

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on the $4 Trillion Budget Resolution, S. Con. Res. 14.

This budget resolution from Senator Bernie Sanders throws fiscal responsibility out the window. This radical budget resolution would run a deficit of $1.3 trillion in a year when the national debt is expected to eclipse $30 trillion. In a time when we should be reining in the gross overspending from the federal COVID-19 response, outlays will far outpace revenues, meaning record-breaking deficits from here on out.

Secretary Yellen told the House Ways and Means Committee that she staunchly opposed Modern Monetary Theory. The reality is that we are already living it. The fact that this budget allocated $373 billion just to service the net interest on the national debt in FY 2022 -- and over $1 trillion for this purpose by FY 2031 -- should be the only red flag needed to vote down Senator Sanders’ budget resolution.

This budget forgoes even the pretense of fiscal responsibility. Medicare alone will cost $770 billion, nearly as much as national defense. Health and Income Security, the largest part of this resolution, each spend approximately $850 billion. Republicans should reject this social welfare legislation and work towards real solutions to get our fiscal house back in order.

By a party-line vote, Democrats are looking to push through a laundry list of left-wing initiatives that include universal pre-k, two years of free community college, and “environmental justice.”

This bloated budget resolution is irresponsible, to say the least, and will only increase the dependence on government handouts. Voting in favor of this massive tax and spend resolution is wrong for Americans now and will contribute to financial hardship for Americans in the future.

FreedomWorks will count the vote for the $4 Trillion Budget Resolution on our 2021 Congressional Scorecard and reserves the right to score any amendments, motions, or other related votes. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

Sincerely,

Adam Brandon, President, FreedomWorks
