Key Vote NO on the Nomination of David Weil for the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote NO on David Weil’s nomination to the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour division. This consequential nomination is both divisive and out of step with the needs of the recovering economy.

David Weil’s nomination for the same post he held during the Obama administration is entirely the wrong pick for our country. First nominated in 2014, he was confirmed by a party-line vote. Despite the rhetoric and calls for unity, President Biden once again chooses to force his partisan agenda on Americans.

What makes David Weil such a divisive figure is that he is a central planner at heart: he supports a $15 minimum wage and opposes the rising gig economy,

A large portion of his professional career is dedicated to his theory of the “fissured workplace.” This theory is highly critical of business franchising and independent contractors responsible for millions of accessible good-paying jobs.

The independent contractor model employed by companies like Uber is a lifeline for struggling Americans. The opportunity to own a franchise enables individuals to build for their futures and employ their neighbors.

Rather than attacking innovative businesses that keep families afloat, we must promote economic freedom and get the government out of the way of success. Anti-gig economy policies wreaked havoc on California, the same policies that the Democrat PRO Act would impose on all Americans.

Anti-worker policies like the PRO Act and out-of-touch academics like David Weil are not the answer to unleashing a robust economic recovery. We must support pro-freedom policies such as the right to work and get the government out of the way.

FreedomWorks will count the vote for David Weil’s nomination to the Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division on our 2021 Congressional Scorecard and reserves the right to score any amendments, motions, or other related votes. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of the House and Senate who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

Sincerely,

Adam Brandon, President, FreedomWorks
