Key Vote YES on the Loudermilk Amendment to Interior & Environmental Appropriations

As one of our over 6.9 million FreedomWorks activists nationwide, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote YES on the Loudermilk Amendment to the Department of Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, H.R. 2822. This amendment would defund the EPA’s Renewable Fuel Standard program.

Created in 2005, the Renewable Fuel Standard program (RFS) requires that companies blend increasing amounts of renewable fuels, such as biodiesel or ethanol, into transportation fuel sold in the United States. This increases the cost consumers pay for fuel, as well as distorting agriculture markets away from more efficient uses, for example the production of food.

The amendment offered by Rep. Barry Loudermilk would prevent any funds appropriated by the Act from being used to implement or enforce the Renewable Fuel Standard program. The market for renewable energy should be driven by consumer demand, not government mandates that keep prices high and pick winners and losers in the market. The RFS tries to artificially support and industry that is not yet commercially viable.

Please contact your representative and ask that he or she vote YES on the Loudermilk Amendment to the Department of Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act, H.R. 2822. FreedomWorks will count the vote on this amendment as a Key Vote when calculating our Congressional Scorecard for 2015. The scorecard is used to determine eligibility for the FreedomFighter Award, which recognizes Members of Congress who consistently vote to support economic freedom and individual liberty.

Sincerely,
