Meet the FreedomWorks Budget Scorecard – 2015 Edition

With both the House and Senate set to vote on various plans for the federal budget this week, FreedomWorks has released our annual budget scorecard. Included are a number of the key numbers relating to how the budgets impact the size of government, and whether the proposals venture into the urgent task of reforming the largest entitlement programs.

One of the key numbers to note is how much the government is spending ten years from now as a percentage of the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The percent of spending to GDP is a key measure of the actual size of government – how much of our economy’s wealth goes towards supporting our massive federal government. Note that only the Republican Study Committee’s plan lowers spending to below 18% of GDP, which is a big part of the reason that it received the highest grade.
