President Trump Calls for Cabinet Officials to Reduce Department Budgets by 5%

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to President Trump’s call for each cabinet official to reduce their department’s budget by 5% next year, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“The federal government needs to drastically cut spending, and the time to do so is now. FreedomWorks applauds President Trump’s call for his cabinet officials to cut each department’s budget by 5%. This is a step in the right direction for our country at a time when our annual deficits continue to balloon and are projected to return to Obama-era trillion-dollar levels next year absent real spending cuts."

“The national debt is the greatest existential threat to the United States today. It’s a national security threat that has been largely ignored by both sides of the aisle and is also a threat to taxpayers at home. Without a balanced budget, the United States will soon find itself in the midst of a severe debt crisis that will critically weaken our economy and undermine American interests abroad.”

“It's now time for cabinet officials to take the President’s call seriously and identify where cuts will be made. But it's even more crucial for Congress to also get serious about reining in the reckless government spending that puts America’s future at risk.”
