On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act, H.R. 1924. Introduced by Reps. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) and Van Taylor (R-Texas), the Kenneth P. Thompson Begin Again Act would eliminate the age requirement for an individual seeking to have his or her record expunged for a first-time drug offense.

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for March 2021 is a resolution on unspent COVID-19 stimulus funds, S.Res. 88 and H.Res. 127. Introduced by Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) and Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) respectively, this resolution would require President Biden to submit a report to Congress on the amount of COVID-19 stimulus funding previously appropriated and currently unspent within 14 days of enactment.

As the United States approaches the one-year anniversary of COVID-19 lockdowns being imposed across the nation, Democrats and their allies in the teachers unions continue to falsely claim that schools can’t be reopened safely. Thankfully, millions of parents on both sides of the political spectrum are beginning to see through these lies.

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and senators and ask them to cosponsor the Student Empowerment Act, H.R. 605 and S. 44. Introduced by Rep. Jason Smith (R-Mo.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas), the Student Empowerment Act would further expand 529 education savings accounts to include K-12 elementary and secondary school expenses for public, private, and religious schools, including homeschool students.

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on President Joe Biden’s blatantly partisan budget, H.Con.Res. 11. The entire purpose of H.Con.Res. 11 is to force legislation through Congress on party lines. Although the nascent Biden administration has had a message of “unity,” the use of budget reconciliation means that bipartisanship is being cast aside to advance a partisan agenda.

One of the cornerstone principles of the Western legal tradition is the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Over the last century, the imposition of bail requirements for accused offenders has flipped that presumption on its head, frequently making pre-trial freedom contingent on cash bail amounts well above the ability of an average citizen to pay. This issue brief explores how this came to be and aims to set out principles for states to use in reforming their bail guidelines. The goal is a return to a system that truly serves both justice and public safety.

On behalf of our activist community in Ohio, I urge you to support Senate Bill (SB) 3. This bill reforms Ohio’s sentencing laws for low-level, nonviolent offenses and focuses limited prison resources and severe, mandatory minimum sentences for high-level drug traffickers. FreedomWorks supports this approach. To this effect, our activists have sent 27,207 messages in support of Senate Bill 3 to Ohio state legislators over the past year and a half.
