Cut the Pork, Don’t Spend Our Tax Cut
The Clinton-Gore White House and big-government friends in Congress argue that Washington "can't afford" to give working families a tax cut this year because it would take money away from sensitive programs. Apparently, what they mean is that tax cuts would deprive them of funding their own pet projects. Here's what they'd like to spend your tax cut on, from A to Z:
A A is for $10 million in Aquaculture research (a fancy term for fish farming), including $750,000 for Aquaculture product and market development in the seafood capital of Appalachia - West Virginia. A is also for the $300,000 grant for Agriculture-based industrial lubricant research in Iowa.
B B is for the $152,000 grant for Bio-diesel research in Missouri and the $5 million grant to the McNeil Biomass plan in Burlington, Vermont. B is also for the Black liquor gasification program within the Department of Energy.
C C is for the $343 million requested by the Clinton administration for the obsolete Corporation for Public Broadcasting. C is also for the $300,000 grant to "Citizens for Modern Transit" in Missouri.
D D is for the $63,000 grant for Dairy and meat goat research in Texas. D is also for the $6.3 million approved for Disaster Resistant Universities.
E E is for the $63 million that the Senate approved for over 130 Earmarked agriculture research and education grants not requested by the Clinton administration. E is also for the $1.75 million grant to the Santa Barbara Electric Transit Institute in California.
F F is for the $1 million approved for Fuel cell buses in Palm Springs, California. F is also for the $250,000 approved for Floriculture research in Hawaii.
G G is for the $50 million U.S. contribution to the Global Environment Facility administered by the World Bank. G is also for the $3 million Gateway to the Future - Ohio pilot project.
H H is for the Market Access Program's $50,000 grant to the Hop Growers. H is also for the $22 million in funding for the Next Generation High-Speed Rail program.
I I is for the $4 million U.S. contribution to the International Fertilizer Development Center. I is also for the Department of Energy's $194 million Industries of the Future project.
J J is for the $67,000 grant to the New Orleans Jazz Commission. J is also for the Market Access Program's $89,000 grant to the American Jojoba Association.
K K is for the Market Access Program's $680,000 grant to the Kentucky Distillers' Association. K is also for the $1 million Kenosha-Racine-Milwaukee rail extension project.
L L is for the $300 million spent on the Legal Services Corporation, a group of taxpayer-supported lawyers who spend their time suing taxpayers. L is also for the $20 million the Clinton administration wants so it can hire more Lawyers to sue the tobacco companies.
M M is for the $3.5 million approved for Manure handling and distribution. M is also for the $2 million Minerals at Risk program.
N N is for the $308,000 grant to the National Warmwater Aquaculture Center to conduct "Hill-Area Aquaculture Research." N is also for the $64,000 grant to study Non-food uses of agriculture products in Nebraska.
O O is for the Department of Energy's $55 million Oil Technology program. O is also for the Market Access Program's $247,000 grant to the Ocean Spray International cooperative.
P P is for the $4,600 Pay raise members of Congress gave themselves this year. P is also for the $2 million in loans given to 17 Pawn shops by the Small Business Administration. P is also for the $500,000 approved for the Potomac River ferry and for the $1 million for Pedestrian and bicycle access improvements in Arlington County, Virginia.
Q Q is for the $1 million Army Corps of Engineers project on the Quillayute River in Washington. Q is also for the $535,000 in Small Business Administration loans to Quail farms in Mississippi and Georgia.
R R is for the $296,000 grant for Rice modeling research in Arkansas. R is also for the $1 million grant to continue the Rehabilitation of bathhouses at the Hot Springs National Park and the $1 million grant to the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area.
S S is for the $500,000 grant for Swine waste management in North Carolina. S is also for the Department of Energy's $63 million Spallation Neutron Source project.
T T is for the $500,000 approved for Trolley cars in New Haven, Connecticut. T is also for the $3 million approved for the Three Rivers Wet Weather Demonstration project in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania.
U U is for the Department of Interior's $32 million Urban and community forestry program. U is also for the $1.2 million funding for University Transportation research.
V V is for the $64 million photoVoltaic energy systems research project. V is also for the $300,000 grant to the Vermont agriculture methane project.
W W is for the $750,000 approved for a Water taxi in Seattle, Washington, and the $1 million for the Water taxi in Savannah, Georgia. X X is for the $1 million grant to Southwest Texas State University for research at the Xiphophorus Genetic Stock Center. X is also for the $759 million in subsidies to the EXport-Import Bank.
Y Y is for the $2.1 million Army Corps of Engineers project on the Youghiogheny River Lake in Pennsylvania and Maryland. Y is also for the Army Corps of Engineers' $13.7 million Yazoo Basin project in Mississippi.
Z Z is for $2 million in U.S. contributions to international organizations such as the International Lead and Zinc Study Group and the International Copper Study Group. Z is also for the $91,000 U.S. contribution to the International Office of EpiZootics.
