Support the Coronavirus Regulatory Repeal Act, H.R. 6691

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Coronavirus Regulatory Repeal Act, H.R. 6691, introduced by Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas). The Coronavirus Regulatory Repeal Act would ensure that any federal regulation repealed or modified during the coronavirus pandemic is permanently repealed the day after the expiration of the national emergency period.

One of President Trump’s key campaign promises was to repeal two regulations for every new one enacted. His administration has more than lived up to that promise, exceeding the two-for-one figure each year of his presidency. This rollback of red tape led to incredible sustained economic growth that created jobs and grew our economy.

These regulatory rollbacks also saved the American people billions of dollars. Estimates show that taxpayers have saved almost $48 billion in regulatory compliance costs as a result of the Trump administration’s rollbacks. This is only a small drop in the mountain of costs associated with federal regulations year over year. Some measures show that Americans collectively spend $1.9 trillion as a result of the vast web of regulations.

Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has decimated our strong economy. Many Americans are now wondering where their next paycheck will come from and when it will come. Our elected leaders need to do everything within their power to give them financial security, both now and when this crisis has ended. Sadly, our economy won’t be able to just flip on again like a light switch.

That is why regulations that were waived to help provide such flexibility during the crisis need to stay gone. The economic impacts of this virus will be felt by American families and businesses all across our nation for long after the emergency period has ended. The need for economic flexibility and recovery is not limited to just the time the virus is active.

Coronavirus Regulatory Repeal Act will do just that. Any regulation modified or waived will be considered repealed once the emergency ends. This will force agencies and elected officials to do a thorough review of whether these regulations were necessary in the first place. It will also take the heavy thumb of the federal government off of families and businesses who are trying to get their feet back under them. This is the kind of measure our nation desperately needs.

For these reasons, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Coronavirus Regulatory Repeal Act, H.R. 6691.

Sincerely,

Adam Brandon, President, FreedomWorks
