Deneen Borelli: “Tea Party must stop EPA’s back-door CO2 regulations”

There’s no rest for weary tea partiers – Project 21 and FreedomWorks fellow Deneen Borelli has a hard-hitting piece at the Daily Caller about the next big battle, the EPA’s CO2 regulation scheme.

With cap-and-trade legislation nearly dead in the Senate, the Obama administration now hopes to ram climate regulation through the backdoor.

Apparently heeding White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel’s advice to “never allow a crisis to go to waste,” the Environmental Protection Agency last December issued its “endangerment finding” that carbon dioxide is a threat to human health and the environment.

No matter how they are implemented, greenhouse gas limits will, in Obama’s own words, cause energy prices to “skyrocket.” They will reduce business output, destroy jobs, raise consumer prices and shift energy production overseas. Coal states will suffer more than others.

This puts Democrats from coal country in a quandary. While many of them want to remain true to progressive principles, they cannot ignore the fact that these EPA regulations will devastate their states’ economies.

Borelli goes on to explain the different approaches in the Senate to stop the EPA’s plans.  You need to read the whole thing here.  It’s important to note the difference between the Murkowski and Rockefeller resolutions – one stops the EPA, the other just presses pause until after elections when legislators have a little more breathing room.

It’s clear which one we need to continue to push.  Half-way, stop-gap measures aren’t acceptable.  Visit our cap and trade war room for more information on the  Murkowski Resolution and call your Senator.

What is also very clear from this article is that we have to continue to be vigilant.  It’s been a long year and many are tired – the best antidote is an infusion of new energy.  The best way to keep up the pressure it to make recruitment the biggest priority right now.  A good way to recruit people is to ask them to take action in a small way – like sending an email to their Congressman.  It helps them learn about the issue and they now have a vested interest in the fight.

Since ObamaCare passed the House Sunday night, we’ve been receiving more calls and emails from people who want to get involved.  These are folks who still haven’t been to a tea party, who aren’t plugged into a local group, and who really have considered themselves an activist before.  That means there are still huge untapped groups of people who care about the future of this country and their families and who should be involved.  Your mission?  Find them. Ask them to take action.  And help them join the battle.
