The coronavirus, and the excessive lockdowns associated with the government’s response have put many of America’s small businesses underwater. Millions of Americans are struggling to make ends meet. Lawmakers are trying to address the issue and get our economy going again. Evidently, those in Arizona didn’t get the memo.
On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Duplication Scoring Act, H.R. 7438, introduced by Rep. Paul Gosar (R- Ariz.). This simple bill would require the analysis of certain legislation for the purpose of preventing duplication of and overlap with existing government programs. An updated version of existing legislation H.R. 4365 sponsored by former-Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Rep. Gosar’s bill would provide much-needed information to Congress and to the American people before Congress passes bills that do things that already exist.
In the past few weeks, one of our favorite members of Congress and a constant FreedomFighter Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.) has been quite active, to say the least. From mic-drop-worthy op-eds and strongly-worded letters to resolutions and bills that would do leagues of good for freedom in our country, his response to the coronavirus pandemic, and the problems that the government has created as a result of it, has been spot-on. Below are some highlights.
This week has marked a significant turning point in American attitudes regarding the coronavirus crisis and, more significantly, the stay-at-home orders that have swept our nation and devastated our economy. Such orders have mandated certain activities -- often under threat of criminal penalty -- and required closure of businesses deemed “nonessential” by various government officials.
FreedomWorks is proud to honor Rep. Debbie Lesko (R-Ariz.) as our member of the month for March 2020. Representing Arizona’s 8th Congressional District, located to the northwest of Phoenix, Rep. Lesko is a consistent, strong female voice for conservatism in the House of Representatives. The lone female member of the House Freedom Caucus and co-chair of the Congressional Caucus for Women’s Issues, Rep. Lesko is beyond deserving of FreedomWorks’ recognition in this Women’s History Month.
FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for February 2020 is the Budget Process Enhancement Act, H.R. 5085. Introduced by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.), the Budget Process Enhancement Act seeks to make common-sense reforms to our budget process and force government agencies to be less wasteful with their share of appropriated taxpayer dollars.
All across the country, at all levels of government, Americans are changing the way they think about the criminal justice system. Just this month, President Trump launched his first official campaign ad during the Super Bowl, and chose to focus his message on criminal justice reform. That he chose to run his first major ad, which reached over 100 million viewers, on criminal justice reform shows just how popular this issue has become.
FreedomWorks is proud to recognize Rep. David Schweikert (R-Ariz.) as our member of the month for July. Rep. Schweikert represents Arizona’s 6th Congressional District, which encompasses northeastern suburbs of Phoenix, including Scottsdale, and parts of Maricopa County. Rep. Schweikert has served the district since January of 2013.
