That's $14 Trillion--Trillion with a 'T'

A battle royal is brewing between the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and the Obama administration over increasing the debt ceiling. The House recently rejected a “clean” bill to raise the debt ceiling that did not include any spending reforms. With the economy lagging and voters rejecting the notion of spending our way to prosperity, the debate over spending is now front and center on the domestic policy agenda. Unfortu-nately, Democrats have failed to address the issue.

Bold Actions by Bold Senators

Since the Tea Party made so much noise at the polls last fall, we have seen a lot of bold action from Members of the House of Representatives to try to rein in spending, reduce the deficit, and limit the overall scope of government. Unfortunately, Senate leadership is not taking heed and has failed to truly address the major issues facing our country. Despite our looming national debt ($14.3 trillion), they have not proposed any major cuts in spending; they have not reformed entitlement programs; and they have not proposed a budget, balanced or otherwise.

President Begins to Trim Budget

The president announced today that he plans to cut $17 billion out of the budget.  It's great to see the president living up to his promise of scouring the budget "line by line" to make cuts.  It's a start, but it is only a tiny fraction of the $3.4 trillion budget.  In fact, the cuts amount to one half of one percent of planned spending.  The White House says they are not done yet though, so hopefully we will see some more cuts soon.

Key Vote No: Obama-Pelosi-Reid Budget

Click here to download the PDFOn behalf of hundreds of thousands of FreedomWorks members nationwide, I urge you to vote “No” on the Obama-Pelosi-Reid budget being considered this week.  Their budget taxes too much, spends too much, and borrows too much.  And, potentially worst of all, it would open the door for socialized medicine and a massive energy tax to be enacted later this year without substantial debate through the reconciliation process.

Obama Adminstration "incorrect" about likely budget deficits

I used the word “incorrect” in the title because I’m feeling momentarily generous. A more precise word would probably have been “lied". Today’s news about deficits is, not surprisingly, much worse than the already-bad picture painted for us by the Obama administration and their ridiculously rosy economic forecasts. An AP article entitled “$1 trillion deficits seen for next 10 years” explains that:
