Since his first run for the White House, Barack Obama has mocked political opponents who have called him a socialist due to his promotion of class warfare, frequent calls for increased spending, and costly regulatory agenda. He was successful at making his political opponents look crazy, but Bernie Sanders‘ rise is a problem for the Democratic Party.
In 2008 and 2012, Senator and President Obama was the solution for Democrat victories across the country. Minorities stood by his side, the youth stood by his side and most importantly, moderates were sticking by his side.
Many public and private sector labor unions require mandatory dues from their members or a fee from non-members within the same workplace. This policy harkens back to a time when union membership was compulsory. Under the Wagner Act of 1935, employers were forced to collectively bargain with employees under its purview whether they were unionized or not. This act spurred union membership by 55%, but this alone was not enough.
