Stop Trial Lawyers from Exploiting Iowa’s Legal System!

Trial lawyers run quite a successful business in Iowa. They make money by suing people, businesses, and institutions and then contribute money to politicians that will keep their money making machine alive. For trial lawyers, the greater the number of lawsuits they can bring, the more they will benefit.

Our legal system should never be a “bank” for trial lawyers to dip their hands in. Americans realize the civil justice system is in need of reform, and a perfect place to start is with the class action system.

The Class Action Fairness Act (S. 274), which faces a vote in the Senate, helps reform this abused system. It makes it easier for class action suits to be moved to federal courts where judges serve life terms, have a greater degree of expertise, and have broader national interests than state judges. Trial lawyer supporters in Congress intend to block the passage of this crucial reform act. In Iowa, Senator Tom Harkin (D) received large contributions from the Association of Trial Lawyers of America in the past and will almost certainly be opposed to improving our country’s class action system and passing this much needed legislation.

With a vote expected next week, Sen. Harkin needs to hear from you!
