CSE Joins the Alliance for Digital Progress

Citizens for a Sound Economy (CSE) today joined with other consumer groups, industry innovators, and think tanks to help launch the Alliance for Digital Progress (ADP). ADP members believe that market based solutions – not government mandates – are the best way to protect digital content in today’s information age.

CSE President and CEO Paul Beckner had these comments:

“Citizens for a Sound Economy is proud to be a member of the ADP. Protecting property – whether digital or tangible – is of utmost concern for CSE and our members. Market based solutions offer the best remedy to secure digital content. We oppose any government-mandated solutions that force market innovators to accept a one-size-fits-all approach for this issue.

“Though Congress may have the right intentions in mind, prescribing a blanket government remedy would only stifle innovation in the technology sector.

Moreover government mandates that force costly regulations on businesses would result in higher prices for consumer products. Importantly, because of the rapidly changing nature of the technology sector, those regulations would prove to be obsolete as the market continually evolves.

“Protecting digital property should lie with market innovators, content providers, and the IT community. Private sector collaboration and innovation – not government intervention – should determine the winners and losers in the technology sector.”
