The Democratic Party has moved from one that at least claimed to represent the interests of the working class to a party that barely hides its pandering to woke, oftentimes white coastal elites. The policies and speech of the DNC are now less focused on lifting people out of poverty and more focused on making sure that no one’s feelings get hurt.
Presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s pick of Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif. as his running mate is just the latest example of how the Democratic Party is moving further and further left. But it will be at this week’s Democratic National Convention, where the party will officially nominate Biden and agree to its 2020 platform, that the policy transformation will be complete.
Democrats have long railed against monopolistic practices in the market place. Indeed the bedrock of the early progressive movement was busting up monopolies and taking big businesses to court. Few political movements have done battle with well-established business interests as effectively as the early progressives.
