Marc Thiessen of the American Enterprise Institute has accurately questioned the efficacy of the Postal Service to properly distribute and collect ballots by millions of voters this November. The problems are many. Thiessen opines, “There is plenty of evidence that mail-in voting has the unintended consequence of disenfranchising of millions of eligible voters.”
File this under the laundry list of liberal hypocrisy. While deriding President Trump for the misallocation of millions of stimulus checks to dead individuals, Democrats want to mandate that states send ballots to every voter on their role under the guise of COVID-19 precautions.
In a break from our usual coronavirus programming, we recently got a quick look ahead to a looming issue that has major implications for the 2020 elections: voting by mail. President Trump’s cautionary tweet regarding the risk of voting by mail was met immediately by so-called fact checks. Not only is there a wealth of supporting evidence from both sides of the aisle that mail-in voting is a risk to election security, but soon after Trump was “fact-checked,” a report surfaced of one form of mail-in voter fraud in West Virginia. For today’s fact-checkers, life comes at you fast.
Amid coronavirus concerns, political leaders from both sides of the aisle are weighing their states’ options for mail-in voting for the 2020 presidential elections. Advocates for mail-in voting argue that it will be impossible to practice social distancing when voting in person, and thus to protect public health, mail-in-voting is a necessity. This is mostly a politically driven ploy.
The phrase “Never let a crisis go to waste” has resurfaced recently. President Obama’s chief of staff, Rahm Emanuel, a product of the Chicago political machine, most famously gave Democrats this advice amid the financial crisis of 2008 to push through a laundry list of the progressive agenda. We are seeing the same thing as part of Democrats’ response to the COVID-19 pandemic. This time around, one of the top items on Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) list is vote by mail. Democrats for years have been looking for ways to weaken voter laws. They claim it will make it easier for folks to vote. Of course, anyone who opposes Democratic efforts to weaken election integrity is subject to the usual unfounded and meaningless blanket criticisms from the left.
You'll find plenty of Democrats who say that cleaning voter rolls of felons and the dead is unfair because it may disenfranchise people from voting (they count on that graveyard vote to win close races) and they are the first to stand up and say that voter fraud isn't really a problem anyway. Well, it seems that the Vice President's niece may be an example of why that isn't true.
I was a poll watcher in Bridgeport, CT in 2010. For those of you not familiar, the Mayor of Bridgeport set off a recent firestorm by promising to swing the 2012 U.S. Senate election for Democrat Chris Murphy. How can he do that? Let me tell you what happened in 2010.
