Today, FCC Chairman Ajit Pai announced before the House and Energy Commerce Committee updates to the Commission’s regulatory framework on media ownership. This modernization is long overdue, reflecting the massive changes in how Americans consume news and entertainment with advent of the Internet. These updates will also allow for struggling local broadcast stations and newspapers to compete more effectively with cable and Internet content providers.

Airband Will Close Rural Broadband Gap

Microsoft recently unveiled its plan to close the rural-urban broadband gap with “Airband,” a technology that delivers broadband through empty radiofrequency. Airband will bring internet service to rural communities in six different states, a move widely seen as the first major investment in TV white space broadband.

Recently, the economic disparity of the urban-rural divide has garnered substantial attention, especially as it relates to Internet and technological expansion. Rural economies suffer from a lack of Internet connectivity relative to urban areas, with rural adults being 10 percent less likely to have broadband or smartphones than urban adults.

FreedomWorks Foundation and Ken Cuccinelli Submit Comments Supporting FCC's Title II Rollback

Yesterday, FreedomWorks Foundation submitted comments in support of the FCC's proposed Restoring Internet Freedom Rule. This rule, proposed under Republican FCC Chairman Ajit Pai, would reverse FCC's 2015 classification and regulation of Internet service providers (ISPs) as public utilities or common carriers under Title II of the Communications Act, more commonly referenced as "net neutrality" rules. This would return ISPs to a light-touch regulatory framework that allowed for the Internet to grow and flourish into the revolutionary economic engine we know today.

FreedomWorks Foundation Sends Comments to FCC on White Space Internet

FreedomWorks Foundation filed comments to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) on Tuesday regarding spectrum regulations for TV white space Internet services. If permitted by the FCC, private firms could offer wireless broadband to people living in areas lacking internet infrastructure. The FCC is considering a hearing on white space in July that could lead to wider broadband accessibility in the future.
