On September 8, 1950, President Harry Truman signed the Defense Production Act (DPA) into law. The measure gives the President sweeping authority to seize control of production in the name of national defense. Many have suggested President Trump use this authority to deal with the effects of coronavirus. Thankfully, he has mostly resisted these calls and the private sector has answered the call of duty on its own.

On April 17, the central Texas town of West was rocked by an explosion at a fertilizer plant that killed 15 people, injured more than 160 people and leveled an entire neighborhood. This small community of less than 3,000 people situated on Interstate-35 between Waco and Dallas was decimated.

Earlier yesterday, Team Obama was in full campaign mode despite the impending perils of the historical Hurricane Sandy.  Bill Clinton fired the original shot, fully politicizing the disastrous storm that was wreaking havoc on the east coast, essentially going with an 'if you think this storm is bad, wait until you see what happens if you vote Republican' blast.
