CSE Members Attend Kernersville Town Board Meeting

On January 6, 2004, CSE activists in North Carolina ushered in the New Year by protesting against unfair overtaxation. At issue is a 2 percent tax discount that is supposed to be given to residents who pay their taxes early.

CSE attended the Kernersville Town Board Meeting to make sure that taxpayers have a voice on this issue.

Joyce Krawiec, the Forsyth County director of Citizens for a Sound Economy, argued that the discount is a moneymaker for local government because it encourages people to pay their taxes early, thus allowing governments to collect interest on the revenue that they would otherwise lose.
