In Georgia, academic freedom is a mixed bag. Legislators in that state have accepted Common Core standards, which gives the federal government unprecedented control over testing standards in individual states. As one of 22 states in the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers,  they handed over some of their local control to federal overseers. However, Georgia took steps this week to maintain some level autonomy. 

Gwinnett County, GA residents have already gone to the mattresses over taxes this year - and won - but that hasn't stopped county commissioners from again trying to raise taxes.  FreedomWorks Georgia activist Debbie Dooley is again leading the charge along with Citizens for Responsible Government.

FreedomWorks Congressional Action Team member and 2008 Activist of the Year, Dolores Gresham, organized a fantastic townhall meeting in her area over the weekend.  The April 25 event in Georgia's 10th District brought in 49 people, including 25 new FreedomWorks members.The group made plans for upcoming rallies on July 4 and in DC on September 12 and received updates on current issues on the state and federal level.

FreedomWorks Georgia is hosting Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine on March 21 from 3:00 - 4:30 pm.  The meeting will be held at the Government Building on 222 Pine Avenue, Albany.
