On August 12, 2004, in Columbus, North Carolina, Polk Co. CSE celebrated its first year. The chapter is growing and already making a major impact!

On July 20, Polk County CSE nominated 4 members for County Commissioner to compete for 3 seats:

Ted Owens
Harry Denton

Democrat
Benny Smith

These candidates, and over 30 activists, attended the meeting.

Pictured below, Benny Smith, CSE Polk Co. Chairman and now Democrat nominee, addresses the CSE chapter on what the current county commission is doing wrong:

1) signing contracts and giving salary bonuses that will possibly force a tax increase next year

2) county runnning a water line to upscale neighborhood and taxing the rest of the county to pay for it
