Issue Analysis

By Any Other Name: Price Controls are Price Controls

Many conservatives and right-of-center political analysts are rightly upset about Health and Human Service Secretary Alex Azar’s proposal to tie drug prices in the United States to those in foreign nations. Such a proposal would make our healthcare system dependent on the whims of nations that subscribe to command and control economic models. There is also the stark reality that imposing price controls does not fix any underlying issues that caused prices to be high in the first place.

FreedomWorks' Bill of the Month for June 2019: The Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act, H.R. 1035

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for June 2019 is the Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act, H.R. 1035, sponsored by Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.). The Prescription Drug Price Transparency Act would require greater transparency and accountability from pharmacy benefit managers (PBMs). This would lower prices for patients, families, and caregivers across the United States.

FreedomWorks' Dumpster Fire of the Month for May 2019: Medicare For All Act, S. 1129

FreedomWorks’ activist-chosen dumpster fire of the month for May 2019 is the Medicare for All Act, S. 1129, sponsored by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Not only would implementing “Medicare for All” add upwards of $32 trillion to our federal expenditures -- It would also result in, as our own Dan Savickas noted in FreedomWorks Foundation’s recently released booklet on entitlement reform, healthcare for none.

Key Vote NO on the Protecting Americans with Preexisting Conditions Act, H.R. 986

On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to vote NO on the Protecting Americans With Preexisting Conditions Act, H.R. 986, sponsored by Rep. Ann Kuster (D-N.H.). The Protecting Americans With Preexisting Conditions Act, contrary to its short title, would do nothing to protect Americans with preexisting conditions and would instead only make it more difficult for Americans both with and without preexisting conditions to have the choices they need to get the best health insurance and subsequently to get the best quality of healthcare for themselves.

Support the Retirement Freedom Act, H.R. 2108 and S. 1030

On behalf of FreedomWorks activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and senators ask them to co-sponsor the Retirement Freedom Act, H.R. 2108 and S. 1030, introduced by Rep. Gary Palmer (R-Ala.) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas). The bill would decouple Social Security benefits from Medicare Part A enrollment, allowing individuals if they so choose to to opt out of Medicare Part A without losing access to their Social Security benefits.

Support the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act, S. 350 and H.R. 1418

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to cosponsor the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act, S. 350 and H.R. 1418. Introduced by Sens. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Reps. Peter DeFazio (D-Ore.) and Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.), the Competitive Health Insurance Reform Act would help lower the cost of health insurance coverage for Americans by eliminating the antitrust exemption that the health insurance industry currently has under the McCarran-Ferguson Act of 1945.

Republicans, Don’t Miss the Surprise in Government-funded Medicare for All

BY Jason Pye

Leftist Democrats, led by Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., introduced a revised government-funded Medicare for All Act on Wednesday as Republicans ready their opposition and Democratic presidential hopefuls face questions about what Medicare for All could mean and the role government should have in setting rates for private insurers.
