It’s a well known fact: the internet is filled with idiots spewing vile, obnoxious, offensive, frequently violent bilge water from the safety of their parents’ basements. Most of these people are harmless blowhards, reveling in their anonymity to say things online that they would never say in person. A few of them are legitimate criminals who mean to harm others, and it’s not always easy to tell the difference.
In a perverse misunderstanding of cause and effect, government regulators always seem to respond to their failures by calling for more of the same. If a policy fails to produce the desired effect, it must be because it didn’t go far enough. Education spending a failure? Spend more! Centralized health care costing too much? Centralize further! The ability to admit a mistake and reverse a bad policy seems to be one that government employees do not possess.
If there’s one thing Democrats love to talk about, it’s equality. The egalitarian streak runs deep in the party of Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, to the point where a majority of Democratic operatives have cited income inequality as their primary concern in the 2016 elections. But when it comes to the tax code, equal treatment under the law seems to be the furthest thing from the candidates’ minds.
