South Carolina Senate Fact #2: PRAs Provide More

Representative Jim DeMint, the Republican nominee for South Carolina’s U.S. Senate Seat, has a bold plan to save Social Security through Personal Retirement Accounts (PRAs). Unfortunately, his opponent Inez Tenenbaum is trying to mislead voters, claiming that retirees will get smaller benefits under DeMint’s proposal.

Nothing could be further from the truth: The DeMint plan, according to official scorekeepers at the non-partisan Social Security Administration, would increase benefits by about 130 percent.

In fact, it is Inez Tenenbaum who refuses to address retirement security and who will not complete the FreedomWorks Candidate Survey on this issue. Without fundamental reform, Social Security will never be able to fulfill its promise to America’s seniors—the program will run into the red in 2018 as benefits promised begin to exceed the contributions paid into the system.

Inez Tenenbaum needs to be forthright about the Social Security crisis and offer her own plan to save the system.
