Maryland's Republican governor misses a big opportunity to protect innocent private property owners

Maryland General Assembly sought to add Maryland to a growing list of states that have reformed their civil asset forfeiture laws. Some states, such as New Mexico and Montana, have enacted comprehensive reforms by eliminating this form of government overreach while others, like as Georgia, have strengthened transparency and reporting requirements.

The tsunami of state-level civil asset forfeiture reforms continues to build as the Florida and Maryland legislatures are considering bills that would take small steps toward protecting innocent people's property from government overreach. The state legislatures that have passed or are considering civil asset forfeiture reforms include Georgia, New Mexico, Texas, and Virginia.

Blue States Singing the Obamacare Blues

States that helped carry President Obama to victory in 2012, are now suffering at the hands of his signature legislation. Democrats hoping to avoid the repercussions of Obamacare are going to have a difficult time explaining away its failures in their own friendly states. Republicans are referring to it as the Blue State Obamacare Blues, with Colorado, Hawaii, Washington D.C., Oregon, Maryland, and Massachusetts all suffering varying degrees of embarrassment.

Liberals like to claim that they are the champions of the middle class.  They claim that without Democrats, ruthless Republicans would sell the little guy out to the evil corporations who, like Vampires on the hit HBO show “Trueblood”, would find joy in sucking you, the little guy, dry.  With all this class warfare rhetoric, it is hard to believe that Liberals have time to do anything, but that’s neither here nor there.
