The Framers of the Constitution knew the importance of the separation of powers. This is why they allocated specific responsibilities to each of the three branches of the federal government: the executive branch, the legislative branch, and the judicial branch. Among the responsibilities given to the legislative branch is the power to authorize or declare war.
On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to cosponsor the Prohibiting Punishment of Acquitted Conduct Act, S. 2566. Introduced by Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and cosponsored by Sens. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), the Prohibiting Punishment of Acquitted Conduct Act would prohibit the practice of federal judges increasing sentences for charges for which the defendant has been acquitted.
On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and senators and ask them to cosponsor the Higher Education Reform and Opportunity (HERO) Act, H.R. 4098 and S. 2339. Introduced by Rep. Francis Rooney (R-Fla.) and Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), the HERO Act would allow states to tailor education to the unique needs of students, by developing their own systems for accrediting educational institutions instead of being restricted fully by the federal Department of Education.
FreedomWorks’ activist-chosen dumpster fires of the month for July 2019 are the Student Debt Cancellation Act, H.R. 3448, introduced by Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and the College for All Act, S. 1947, introduced by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.). Both of these pieces of legislation would seek to erase all federal student loan debt and completely restructure the higher education system, forcing unwitting taxpayers to foot the $2.2 trillion bill.
On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote YES on the Lee amendment (#928) and the Paul amendment (#929) to the Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victims Compensation Fund Act, H.R. 1327, offered by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) and Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.), respectively. These two amendments complement each other, ensuring that the reauthorization of the Victims Compensation Fund (VCF) is fiscally responsible and held accountable to its purpose.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- In response to President Trump’s recent decision to implement higher tariffs on Chinese manufactured goods, Jason Pye, FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs, commented:
On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Global Trade Accountability Act, S. 1284. Introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), the Global Trade Accountability Act would require congressional approval for any unilateral trade measures, including tariffs, carried out by the executive branch.
On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and ask them to vote YES on the veto override for the Yemen War Powers Resolution, S.J.Res. 7, championed by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah). The Yemen War Powers Resolution, which has already been passed by both chambers of Congress, would require the removal of undeclared, unauthorized United States’ support for the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen absent explicit congressional authorization.
On behalf of our activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Assuring that Robust, Thorough, and Informed Congressional Leadership is Exercised Over National Emergencies (ARTICLE ONE) Act. Introduced by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah), the ARTICLE ONE Act would amend the National Emergencies Act of 1976 to require congressional approval of an emergency declaration made by a president.
