FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon made the following statement regarding reports that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is considering skipping budget reconciliation, throwing away the best chance to further a conservative agenda this year.
To say it’s been a frustrating year for conservatives would be a vast understatement. After running for years on promises of a full repeal of Obamacare and winning elections in a sweeping and historic victory, Republicans couldn’t even manage to pass the repeal they passed months before under former President Barack Obama.
FreedomWorks Vice President of Legislative Affairs Jason Pye made the following statement following the advancement of the House tax bill out of the Ways and Means Committee and recent announcements about the Senate’s tax reform bill:
After a hotly contested — and highly expensive — 2017 election cycle, the Democrats have taken the governor’s mansions in both Virginia and New Jersey. In both cases, it was a sweeping victory, with Ralph Northam winning nearly 54 percent of the Virginia vote and Ryan Murphy winning 56 percent of the New Jersey vote.
Coming off a week-long recess and without any significant legislative victories this year, the pressure is on the Senate this week to pass the FY 2018 budget resolution, S.Con.Res. 25, which provides reconciliation instructions for fundamental tax reform. The House passed its own version of the FY 2018 budget, H.Con.Res. 71, on October 5 by a vote of 219 to 206.
FreedomWorks President Adam Brandon released the following statement after the press conference with conservative groups on Sen. Mitch McConnell’s performance and future:
On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your senators and tell them to vote NO on the amendment to H.R. 601 offered by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). The amendment would increase the debt limit and fund the federal government through December 8 without any spending or regulatory reforms. There are no guarantees that the situation will be any different when the Senate revisits the issue in December.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has indicated that he will bring an ObamaCare repeal bill to the floor early next week for a motion to proceed. For those not familiar with a motion to proceed, it's a procedural vote that allows the Senate to consider a piece of legislation on the floor.
