FreedomWorks’ activist-chosen dumpster fire of the month for April 2019 is the “Democracy Dollars” Act, H.R. 1613, introduced by Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wa.). This bill is actually a portion of February’s dumpster fire of the month, the “For the People” Act. Jayapal’s bill would grant $25 to each voter to donate to the congressional candidate of their choosing. This means that your tax dollars could be subsidizing candidates with whom you disagree.

This week, Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.) introduced the Medicare for All Act, H.R. 1384. The bill would completely eliminate private health insurance and expand vastly expand Medicare to every American. This proposal would, given all of the medical services would capture, quite literally be a complete government takeover of health insurance. Put simply, if you’re one of the more than 156 million Americans who has a private health insurance plan, you won’t be allowed to have that plan after two years and you will pay more in taxes, regardless of your income level, should this bill become law.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) made some news on Wednesday when she sent a letter to President Donald Trump urging a postponement of the State of the Union address before a joint session of Congress on January 29. Although she stopped short of disinviting him, Speaker Pelosi cited security concerns related to the government shutdown as the reason.
