FreedomWorks' Member of the Month for September 2020: Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.)

FreedomWorks is proud to honor Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) as our member of the month for September 2020. Senator Paul’s voting record has been 98 percent in alignment with FreedomWorks’ Congressional Scorecard over the ten years he has served as Kentucky’s junior U.S. Senator. During that time, he has consistently been a source and fearless champion of some of the best, limited-government legislation across a wide spectrum of issues.

Sound Money Caucus Looks to Bring Needed Attention to Monetary Policy

As we attempt to recover from the economic devastation wrought by the pandemic and the government’s authoritarian response to it, restoring a sound monetary policy may not be near the top of lawmakers’ priorities -- but it should be. With record rates of deficit spending and a record-shattering Federal Reserve balance sheet, it should be no surprise that the dollar’s value is at an all time low when compared to the value of gold. None of this is setting the stage for a rapid recovery, or for robust growth thereafter.

Profiles in Liberty: Dr. Ron Paul

On January 12, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act (S. 2232) is scheduled for a vote in the Senate. Authorizing review by the Governmental Accountability Office of our nation’s monetary policy, the bill was introduced by Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.). But the bill’s final vote is arguably due to the legacy of the Senator’s father, former Rep. Ron Paul (R-Tex.), who championed the causes of sound money and central bank transparency over his 12-term career in Congress. Dr. Paul is the subject of this week’s Profiles in Liberty.

Essays that champion educational freedom

Over the last several years, Common Core education standards have become an increasingly important issue for parents and teachers, as they see how children are affected by the policy. Yet, the details of what exactly Common Core is, how it works and how it came to be remain hopelessly complex and difficult for the novice to understand. In the face of slick advertising campaigns by Common Core’s corporate backers and lofty speeches from politicians, the truth can be difficult to ferret out. With the new book, “Common Ground on Common Core,” we finally have a handy, one-volume resource that answers all these questions and more.

House Overwhelmingly Passes Audit the Fed. So, Why Won't Harry Reid Bring it to a Vote?

As expected, the House overwhelmingly passed legislation (H.R. 24) to audit the Federal Reserve with a vote of 333-92. This goes to show that bringing transparency to the central bank is a bipartisan issue that transcends party lines. FreedomWorks will be scoring this important vote in our congressional scorecard to hold legislators accountable.

Senate Republicans Who Have NOT Cosponsored Audit the Fed Bill

With Ron Paul’s Federal Reserve Transparency Act overwhelmingly passing the House last week, the fight moves on to the Senate. Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) has introduced an identical bill, S. 202, in the Senate. According to the Library of Congress’ THOMAS website, the legislation currently has 23 (edit: now 27) cosponsors.
