FreedomWorks’ Bill of the Month for July 2018: National Debt is a Threat to National Security, H.Res. 919

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for June 2018 is H.Res. 919, sponsored by Rep. Andy Biggs (R-Ariz.). The resolution, which has 36 cosponsors, would recognize that our unsustainable national debt poses a true threat to the security of our country. This simple fact is too often ignored by those who claim to be fiscal conservatives, yet use increased defense funding as an excuse to vote for higher and higher spending levels each year.

If You Build the Blockchain, Regulators Will Come

The hardest part of drafting any new regulation is establishing a definition. In fact, most of the policy work is in the definition and there are alarmingly few policy considerations after something is defined as a covered entity. The definition of cryptocurrency has already proved problematic for regulators. Essentially, to commodities regulators, virtual currency is a commodity. For bank regulators, it is a bank. For securities regulators, it is a security. For those who regulate money transmitters, it is a money transmitter. For the purpose of property taxes, it is a property. Everyone wants a stake in the new world of virtual currency.

TSA Takes on Sock Monkey

A year or so ago, the TSA confiscated my NRA membership keychain because it kinda sorta looked bullet-like. It was clearly supposed to resemble a bullet but, at the same time, it was clearly not. I asked if they could just swab it to prove that it was not a live round but, alas, they would not. My beloved NRA keychain was taken, and I had my own story on how crazy the TSA is. I thought it was a pretty good story until yesterday, when I heard they took a toy gun away from a sock monkey.

High-tech NSA Claims It Can’t Search Its Own Emails

You remember the NSA, right? Big, shadowy agency recording everything you say, write or do online or on your phone? It was in all the papers about four and a half scandals ago.
