FreedomWorks Urges Senators to Support the McConnell Amendment to Repeal Obamacare

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, the Senate will vote on the “McConnell Amendment” calling for the full repeal of Obamacare.  The legislation, passed in the House by an overwhelming bipartisan margin of 245-189, will be introduced to the Senate floor as an amendment to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) bill.

FreedomWorks engaged its network of over 1 million grassroots activists in a call to action to support the McConnell amendment to repeal Obamacare. Activists are encouraged to call the offices of 8 key Senators, including Joe Manchin (D-WV), James Webb (D-VA), Bill Nelson (D-FL), Ben Nelson (D-NE), Robert Casey (D-PA), Jon Tester (D-MT), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), and Jeff Bingaman (D-NM).

FreedomWorks believes that Obamacare is a job-killing law that will skyrocket insurance costs, bankrupt the federal government, and take away patients’ choices. It was rammed through Congress last year by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi without garnering a single Republican vote.

Ten months after its passage, the new health care law has already done damage to the economy. Insurance premiums are soaring across the nation. By 2016, CBO predicts the average price of privately purchased insurance will be 27-30% higher for all Americans. Struggling American families will have to pay an average of $2,100 more for coverage.

Federal Judges in both Virginia and Florida have ruled the Obamacare mandate to be unconstitutional. “Congress exceeded the bounds of its authority in passing the Act with the individual mandate,” ruled Judge Roger Vinson of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida.  “Because the individual mandate is unconstitutional and not severable, the entire Act must be declared void.”

Dean Clancy, FreedomWorks’ Legislative Counsel and Vice President of Health Care Policy added, “The Florida decision was a huge vindication for us and the entire repeal movement. We’ve always said the mandate is unconstitutional. Two federal judges have agreed. The courts and the House of Representatives have done their part in protecting the principles of the Constitution. Now it’s time for the Democrats and Republicans in the Senate to do theirs.”

FreedomWorks’ network of over 1 million grassroots activists has led the fight for healthcare freedom with a nationwide campaign of emails, phone calls to Congress, and district office visits to support the repeal of Obamacare and its replacement with a patient-centered approach to health care. Activists are encouraged to visit the FreedomWorks Repeal Obamacare War Room to learn more about how to get more involved.
