FreedomWorks Corrects the Obamacare Spin: Spending Money Will NOT Reduce Debt
WASHINGTON, DC- As its first major act, the new Republican majority in the House of Representatives will vote on a bill promising the complete repeal Obamacare on January 12th. Yesterday, less than a week before the vote, a letter was released by the Congressional Budget Office estimating that the repeal of Obamacare would increase the deficit by $230 billion over 10 years.
The antithesis of a free market, Obamacare is a job-killing, micro-managing law that threatens to skyrocket insurance costs and bankrupt the federal government. It was rammed through Congress last year by Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi without garnering a single Republican vote.
“Polls have consistently shown that a solid majority of Americans want Washington to reverse the government takeover of health care and adopt a patient-centered approach. Demands for consumer choice and individual sovereignty were the motor that powered the sweeping Republican takeover of Congress,” commented Dean Clancy, VP of Health Care Policy at FreedomWorks. “Opposing a full repeal would be a political disaster leading into 2012.”
Besides, even the CBO says their budget numbers are erratic. Back in March, the agency was extremely tentative in its prediction that passing Obamacare would produce any savings, and refused to make any specific prediction beyond the law’s first decade.
In yesterday’s estimate, the CBO says, “The projections of the bill’s budgetary impact are quite uncertain” and “have a roughly equal chance of turning out to be too high or too low.”

“No serious observer believes for a minute that Obamacare is anything but a budget-buster,” added Clancy. “Obamacare was passed using over $700 billion in budget gimmicks and hidden costs. We shouldn’t let the inconvenience of correcting bad behavior prevent its full repeal.”
