FreedomWorks Applauds Wisconsin for Supporting Bold Pro-Growth Reforms Despite Attacks from the Left

WASHINGTON, DC- Today, Freedomworks applauds Wisconsin Republicans for effectively maintaining its majority in the chamber despite the bullying tactics of state Democrats and public sector unions. State Democrats attempted to recall six state Republicans following Governor Walker’s efforts to balance the budget and reign in spending. Despite their outrage, Governor Walker’s reforms are already showing tremendous success. Over 9,500 of the 18,000 jobs created in the United States June jobs report came from Wisconsin. It has generated over $220 million in state budget savings, a number that continues to grow.

In a desperate effort to retain their stranglehold over the Wisconsin government and economy, labor unions spent $30 million dollars on attack ads against state Republicans and the Governor. To counter this propaganda, FreedomWorks spent four days on the Tea Party Express bus, rallying support behind Governor Walker and the targeted Wisconsin Republicans.

“It is a little ironic that the Wisconsin Democrats are accusing the Republicans of disrespecting their office and failing to do their jobs, when they were the ones who flew the state to Illinois during the collective bargaining debates,” commented Matt Kibbe, President of FreedomWorks. “Actions have consequences. And at the end of the day, constituents can trust that when the going gets tough, the Republicans will at least show up.”

FreedomWorks has been engaged since February to support Governor Walker’s efforts to stand up against Wisconsin’s corrupt public sector unions. The “Budget Repair Bill,” passed and signed in March, significantly limited collective bargaining for state employee unions, as well as required government workers to make contributions to their pensions and health-care premiums. It’s projected to save $300 million over the next two years, helping alleviate a $3.6 billion state budget deficit.

“Wisconsin can no longer afford to shield public employees from economic reality,” added Kibbe. “We will continue to stand by Governor Walker and legislators targeted by bullying union tactics. Budget reform is what a majority of the people in Wisconsin voted for. These legislators should not be under attack for protecting the economic future of their constituents.”
