FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for June 2020 is H.R. 2558, which would define the dollar as a fixed weight of gold, introduced by Rep. Alex Mooney (R-W.Va.). This bill would require the Department of the Treasury to define the value of the dollar in terms of a fixed weight of gold based on the market price.
FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for June 2018 is H.R. 5470, sponsored by Rep. Ted Budd (R-N.C.). The bill would repeal the Office of Financial Research (OFR), a new independent agency within the Department of the Treasury that was created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (“Dodd-Frank”) to help spot the next financial crisis.
One of President Barack Obama's most controversial regulations is getting a lot of attention after President-elect Donald Trump nominated Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt to serve as administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The Clean Power Plan (CPP), under the purported authority of the Clean Air Act, requires states to develop plans to reduce emissions by 32 percent below 2005 levels. If a state fails to adopt a plan, the EPA creates one for it. The rule will supposedly avert 0.015°F by 2100 of future temperature increases.
Good news came out of the West Virginia legislature this past Thursday, as bills regarding Right-to-Work and repealing the prevailing wage were passed in the House and Senate, respectively. Both of these bills mean that workers will no longer be tethered to barriers to business caused by the state, and the West Virginia economy will be allowed grow free from government inefficiencies.
A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about a county in West Virginia was trying to intimidate students who wanted to opt out of the standardized testing mandated under Common Core standards. Despite assurances from the State Superintendent of Education that there were no consequences to students for opting out, schools were fearing a loss of funding, and therefore overreacting to parents exercising their rights by singling out and pressuring students to comply.
When it comes to the welfare of their kids, parents can be pretty formidable. As it becomes increasingly clear in school districts across America that the standardized tests aligned with Common Core standards are making education worse, more parents are choosing to just say no.
It’s a new year, and the state legislatures have come roaring back into session chock full of ideas to stop the Common Core education standards that are damaging school systems all across the country. Last year, we saw Missouri, Oklahoma, and South Carolina withdraw from the standards, and 2015 looks to be off to a good start.
FreedomWorks for America announced its endorsement today for Alex Mooney for U.S. Congress in West Virginia’s second congressional district.
FreedomWorks for America President Matt Kibbe commented, “Alex Mooney is a champion for liberty who will stand up for the people of West Virginia. He’s pledged to never support any tax increases, will work to stop the EPA’s War on Coal, and is ready to rein in the NSA. The grassroots are eager to see Mooney represent them in Washington.”
