FreedomWorks Statement in Response to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s Decision to File Cloture on the Freedom to Vote Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — In response to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer’s Decision to File Cloture on the Freedom to Vote Act, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“Nothing more than a rebrand of ‘the Corrupt Politicians Act,’ the Freedom to Vote Act amounts to a Democratic power grab in Washington to the detriment of American voters from both sides of the aisle. It certainly does not secure our elections.

“This bill seeks to entirely upend the electoral system as it currently exists by stripping states of their constitutional authority to manage their elections and giving that power to the federal government. Furthermore, with its overhaul of campaign finance laws, the Freedom to Vote Act poses a chilling threat to political activists and their ability to petition the government.

“At its core, the Freedom to Vote Act is nothing more than a thinly veiled power grab that is highly dangerous, blatantly unconstitutional, and overt in its goal of giving Democrats disproportionate influence over elections.”
