FreedomWorks Urges House Republicans to Oppose Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. — As the Democratic leadership struggles to meet their promise of holding a vote on the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act by September 27, Adam Brandon, FreedomWorks President, commented:

“With Speaker Pelosi scrambling to find the votes to pull the reconciliation and infrastructure packages over the finish line, House Republicans cannot afford any defections. There is no circumstance in which any House Republican should be doing the Democrats’ legwork for them. That’s why FreedomWorks is calling on Republican leadership to whip against both of these bills.

“Any Republican who claims to oppose the Democrats’ ‘cradle to grave’ plan to inject the heavy hand of government into every aspect of Americans’ lives must also oppose the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Both of these bills are a trojan horse for Democrats’ welfare state that Republicans promised to oppose on the campaign trail. Polling shows that more than two thirds of Americans agree with the GOP’s core belief that the federal government’s management of the economy does more harm than good. At the same time, nearly four in five Americans support work requirements for government handouts.

“If Leader McCarthy can’t pose a united front against Democrats’ big government takeover, then how can he expect American voters to deliver a Republican majority in 2022?”
