Congress Must Make Any State and Local Coronavirus Aid Contingent Upon Reopening

Congress will soon consider another legislative solution to COVID-19, having already passed four bills in response to the pandemic. Those bills have increased the budget deficit by some $2.4 trillion, and new legislation will likely near $1 trillion, adding more to the budget deficit.

Washington Can Afford No More Spending for Coronavirus Relief

Congress may be out of session this week, but when lawmakers return, we all know they will get back to their favorite pastime of spending taxpayer dollars. The phase four coronavirus relief bill, which will almost certainly be in the ballpark of $1 trillion or more, is inevitable. In addition to increasing the deficit, lawmakers, particularly Democrats, are willing to incentivize Americans to stay far more than six feet away from the economy.

What's On Deck in Congress: COVID-19 Phase IV

Congress will return to Washington, D.C. next week. Although both chambers already have items on their respective agendas before the August recess begins, another phase of COVID-19 response legislation is expected to be considered. If text exists, few have seen it. Like the previous COVID-19 responses from Congress, the process is entirely controlled by congressional leadership.

DOD's Chief Management Officer Has Saved Taxpayers $21 Billion. Why Is Congress Trying to Eliminate the Position?

When the Senate returns next week, the chamber will continue to process the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for FY 2021, S. 4049. This is the annual authorizing bill for the Department of Defense (DOD), which can, at times, include controversial provisions.

FreedomWorks’ Bill of the Month for June 2020: Sound Money Legislation, H.R. 2558

FreedomWorks is proud to announce that our bill of the month for June 2020 is H.R. 2558, which would define the dollar as a fixed weight of gold, introduced by Rep. Alex Mooney (R-W.Va.). This bill would require the Department of the Treasury to define the value of the dollar in terms of a fixed weight of gold based on the market price.

Support the Duplication Scoring Act, H.R. 7438

On behalf of FreedomWorks’ activist community, I urge you to contact your representative and ask him or her to cosponsor the Duplication Scoring Act, H.R. 7438, introduced by Rep. Paul Gosar (R- Ariz.). This simple bill would require the analysis of certain legislation for the purpose of preventing duplication of and overlap with existing government programs. An updated version of existing legislation H.R. 4365 sponsored by former-Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Rep. Gosar’s bill would provide much-needed information to Congress and to the American people before Congress passes bills that do things that already exist.

Strong Economic Numbers Mean Congress Has to Pause Spending

The tide has turned in the economy. Jobs are coming back and Americans are returning to work. The latest figures make it clear that the nation is on the road to recovery, with a substantial decline in unemployment. In keeping with the trend under President Trump of surpassing expectations, the jobs report blew previous predictions out of the water. Instead of 8 million additional lost jobs, as some predicted, gross employment rose by more than 2 million jobs, and unemployment fell to 13 percent. What could be next?

Adam Brandon in Fox: Congress, Focus on Nursing Homes and Our Vulnerable Elderly, Not Bailouts

Congress has already passed relief packages totaling $3.6 trillion in response to the coronavirus pandemic. It may soon spend trillions more bailing out the U.S. Postal Service in addition to the airlines and city and state governments that have for so long embraced fiscal irresponsibility. Strange priorities in a crisis.
