On behalf of nearly 850,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to sustain the President’s veto of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP).  The President was right to veto this scheme that would expand government healthcare coverage to include groups of people up to 300% above the poverty line and never intended to be covered by this plan.

The bill exceeds the president’s already generous request by $30 billion dollars, and he is right to threaten a veto.

On behalf of nearly 850,000 FreedomWorks members nationwide, I write to urge you to VOTE NO on H.R. 3162, the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) reauthorization bill being offered in the House. Funded by a $0.45 increase in the federal cigarette excise tax and a nearly 200% raise in taxes on cigars, the SCHIP reauthorization proposal calls for up to $50 billion in new funds for the program, dwarfing the President’s current request of $5 billion over 5 years.

WASHINGTON, D.C. On Tuesday, July 17, FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe joined Rep. Mike Pence, representatives from the American for Tax Reform, the National Taxpayers Union, and other free market groups to organize and launch the effort to stop socialized health care. Kibbe stated that the federal government is already the largest buyer and seller of health care in the United States. This, he said, is why the solution is less government in a free market approach to health care, not total government ownership and control.

This week, Wisconsin Senate Democrats are planning to push a budget plan that would raise taxes significantly for both citizens and businesses. Currently Wisconsin has the eighth heaviest tax burden. If the Democrat tax scheme is realized, Wisconsin would become the highest taxed state in the nation. FreedomWorks, a grassroots organization based in Washington, DC with 11,000 members in Wisconsin, urges Wisconsinites to fight the new tax plan.
