Republicans discuss Measure 37 in Lincoln City

Measure 37 “Propaganda vs. Reality” will be the subject of the next “Food and Facts” series sponsored by the Lincoln County Republicans. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at noon, Tuesday, March 13 at Lil’ Sambos restaurant in Lincoln City. The lunch menu is optional.

Measure 37 was adopted by a large majority of voters in Lincoln County and the state in 2004. Proponents of the Measure successfully argued that Oregon’s unique top down centralized zoning process had become too oppressive, effectively eliminating the value and economic viability of much of the land in the state.

Since passage, opponents have launched a media campaign alleging that Measure 37 claims will result in unbridled development and cost local government billions of dollars. The governor and the new Democrat controlled legislature are proposing legislation that would undercut Measure 37.

Russ Walker will be the featured speaker. Walker is the Oregon State Director of FreedomWorks and the vice chairman of the Oregon Republican Party. FreedomWorks is a national organization that recruits, educates, trains and mobilizes hundreds of thousands of volunteer activists to fight for less government, lower taxes, and more freedom. Walker will focus on the facts surrounding the effects of Measure 37 and the legislation currently being proposed in Salem. For more information, contact Art Anderson at 336-2760.
