Barack Obama: Democrats avoiding me “are all folks who vote with me, they have supported my agenda in Congress”

Earlier this month, President Barack Obama told a crowd at Northwestern University that, even though he’s "not on the ballot this fall," his agenda is.

"But make no mistake," he said. "These policies are on the ballot, every single one of them.”

Vulnerable Senate Democratic incumbents — including Mark Udall (D-CO), Mark Pryor (D-AR), Kay Hagan (D-NC), Mark Begich (D-AK), and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) — have spent much of the election cycle trying to avoid any connection to President Obama. They’ve all tried claimed independence from the Obama administration and have tried to distance themselves from its policies.

During a radio interview on Monday, President Obama explained that he understands why vulnerable Democrats don’t want him to visit their states, but made it clear that they’ve all supported his agenda.

"And so some of the candidates there — it is difficult for them to have me in the state because the Republicans will use that to try to fan Republican turnout," said President Obama. "The bottom line is though, these are all folks who vote with me, they have supported my agenda in Congress."

"These are folks who are strong allies and supporters of me, and I tell them, I said, ‘You know what, you do what you need to do to win. I will be responsible for making sure our voters turn out,’" he added.

He’s just pointing out the facts. Senate Democratic incumbents up for reelection this year have been strong supporters of his agenda. In February, Roll Call reported that "[e]very vulnerable Senate Democrat up for re-election in 2014 voted with President Barack Obama at least 90 percent of the time in 2013," including Begich, Landrieu, and Hagan, who "voted for Obama’s position 97, 97, and 96 percent of the time." Pryor backed the White House in 90 percent of votes while Udall voted with President Obama 99 percent of the time.

Thanks for helping us get the word out, Mr. President!
