Group honors three for anti-tax efforts

SALEM — Oregon Republican Party Chairman Kevin Mannix and two others have been honored by the Americans for Tax Reform for their efforts to defeat Measure 30.

Mannix, Keizer resident Russ Walker and Jason Williams led the opposition to the tax increase in the Feb. 3 election and were awarded the group’s “Dragon Slayer Award,” a 4-foot-long medieval sword.

The Washington, D.C.-based group is a nonpartisan coalition of taxpayers and taxpayer groups that oppose all tax increases. The group said that Mannix, Walker and Williams were honored “in appreciation for their untiring effort in the fight against higher taxes in Oregon.”

Walker is the executive director of Citizens for a Sound Economy Oregon and Williams is the executive director of the Taxpayer Association of Oregon.
