Group welcomes debate on Social Security

The conservative free-market group Citizens for a Sound Economy is bringing its Social Security ideas to Boynton Beach today.

The organization favors changes to Social Security, including at least some amount of privatization. John Hallman, South Florida director for the organization, said political reality would dictate preserving benefits for current retirees and near retirees.

But, he said, people a long way from retirement should be able to make some investment decisions themselves, rather than depend on the government program.

Hallman said he hopes people who disagree with his organization’s position show up, allowing for a spirited discussion.

The speaker is Max Pappas, a Washington-based analyst for the group.

The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Express, 480 W. Boynton Beach Blvd.
