I felt compelled to write after receiving the letter from Russ Walker of Citizens for a Sound Economy. I can’t imagine why he would send out thousands of letters to Oregonians without researching his topic first; therefore, I can only assume he and his sponsor are trying to mislead us.
Mr. Walker says that “If the Legislature won’t sell SAIF to stop wasting our taxes, then an initiative is the only recourse for taxpayers like you and me.”
It is a well-known fact that SAIF is not supported by tax money. SAIF’s income comes from insurance premiums paid by employers and investment returns on the money set aside to pay benefits to injured workers. SAIF is a not-for-profit corporation. Those are just a couple of blaring untruths in his letter.
The bottom of his letter shows “Paid for by Oregonians for Accountability.” The definition of the word “accountable” states: Someone who is accountable, is completely responsible for what they do and must be able to give a satisfactory reason for it.
I would suggest we have an investigation into the Oregonians for Accountability, along with CSE and their misleading tactics. Who holds the accountability group accountable? Shame on them.
